Fall River veterans and volunteers are seen erecting a historic flag pole at the Fall River Cemetery on May 25th, 2015. The flagpole spent it’s entire official military service life as the base flag pole at Logistics Support Area [Camp] Anaconda, Iraq. Once the base was prepared to be returned to the Iraqi government in 2011, the flag pole was directed to be cut down and scrapped. US Army 1st Sgt Keith Miller, a resident of Fall River, who was stationed at Anaconda at the time, thought the flag pole should be saved and brought back to the states for a new life in memory of all those who served under it. And that’s just what Miller made sure happened. Once the flag pole found its way to Fall River from Iraq, it underwent a complete restoration at the local Fall River metal fabricator’s shop. The flag pole was then erected and officially rededicated in a flag-raising ceremony on Memorial Day 2015 at the Fall River Cemetery.
